Primary School

“Every child, every chance, every day.”

Reception

Reception Curriculum

Throughout the school year, the children in Reception will enjoy learning a range of new topics.

Reading at home

In Reception we promote a love for Reading. It is vital that your child is exposed to a range of stories, both fiction and non-fiction. We are currently focusing on teaching your child phase 2 and 3 sounds. It is important your child says the sound they can see when segmenting a word, rather than the letter name.

As well as their reading books, your child can read even more books online with your Bug Club account (these will be sent home in your child’s homework books). Class teachers will allocate books and phonic games to access at home.

A Phonics meeting will be held 1st October 2024 for parents to attend. This will enable you get an insight into how we deliver our phonics lessons.

Literacy

In Literacy we focus on Talk for Writing. Your child will learn a range of stories, by coming up with actions for each section of the taught story and then orally rehearsing it.

The stories we will be focusing on this year are:

Goldilocks and The Three Bears

Whatever Next

Mr Gumpy’s Outing

The Little Red Hen

Frog Prince

Handa’s Surprise
